Mike and Rhiannon got married amongst family and friends
on July the 19th in Madison, Wisconsin.
I was happy to be a witness as their photographer.
Their genuine love and affection for each other were obvious,
and–despite a minor skirmish during the cake-cutting ceremony–
they laughed, kissed and made up through the frosting.
I wish them happiness in their new lives together.

Early Father’s Day I had a family portrait scheduled for the lakefront near the Shedd Aquarium.
This is what cancelled the session; a powerful, fast-moving storm that arrived at the same time we did.
The clouds were otherworldly colors of blues and purples; even though we knew what was coming, we kept looking at them even as we were running like crazy for our cars.

Sunday was a self-assignment to shoot at the Blues Festival. The weather was muggy and hot, a holdover from storms yesterday, and the closer I came to the entrance to the park, the less desirable it seemed to be as a place to spend an entire Sunday afternoon. So, looking for a place to rethink this thing, I went into a nearby building, one of my favorite vintage buildings downtown. It has enormous high windows facing the lake and has always been the type of place I have wanted to have a studio.
This building is a elegant structure with many different types of creative tenants in dance, music and art. I fell in love with the light illuminating beautiful polished surfaces of wood, marble and metal.
And wouldn’t you know it, shortly after I got inside the sky opened up and rained like a waterfall over the Festival (and festivalgoers) for almost a hour. But I and my precious cameras still had our Sunday playdate. Here are some of the photos from that afternoon.
